A day on the ski slopes

Its been far too long!

 Image001Image000

About 5 years ago was the last I managed to get myself on snow. Having loved skiing and getting a bug of it many moons ago, I have found it difficult to find someone to go with (and also the expense of it). Today I found myself at x-scape in Leeds. It was F.A.B.

Image002

Here are some of the pictures of myself and my sister. Belle did really well having not skied ever before. She was parallel turning in under 2 hours and going from the top. (Don't want to mention the amount of times she fell over - not many really for a novice. The funniest things was having to wait for her as she fell over on the button lift). But all in all she was FAB for a first timer. Well Done.

Skegness ladies hockey team secure their first win of the season - Skegness Standard

Taken from this weeks paper, regarding last weeks match.

SKEGNESS travelled to Lincoln this week with high hopes of their first win of the season against a struggling Lincoln's 2nds team.

Hockey East League
Lincoln 2nds 0
Skegness Ladies 5

Skegness dominated the first 15 minutes of the half, leading to many golden opportunities for the Skegness forwards, including a diving shot made by Amanda Black, which was just kicked away by the Lincoln goalkeeper. Unfortunately none of the goal attempts were successful, and Lincoln was able to pressure the Skegness defence with a few chances of their own; none of which got past goalkeeper Vicky Thurston.

Within minutes of being back on the pitch after half time, player of the match Amy Rutter opened the scoring after intercepting a Lincoln sideline pass, and leaving herself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, to which she struck the ball in the bottom right corner.

This goal provided Skegness with the confidence they needed, and five minutes later their second goal was scored by Abbi Emerson as she pushed the ball into the goal on receiving a pass from Rutter.
As Skegness began to dominate, Lincoln really felt the pressure and began to make mistakes; one leading to an interception by Skegness which was then passed to Black, whose first half efforts on goal were finally rewarded by a strike past the keeper, to score Skegness' third goal.

The fourth goal of the match came from top goal scorer Rutter, who on receiving the ball, quickly turned and hit it skilfully into the corner of the goal in one swift movement.

The final goal of the match was scored by defender Lara Potts who struck a fantastic shot past the keeper to secure Skegness' first win of the season.

Team: Keely Blakey, Chantelle Farrell, Amy Rutter, Olivia Stephenson, Kate Tyler, Debbie Skipworth, Amanda Black, Abbi Emerson, Lara Potts, Pauline Forman, Vicky Thurston, Emma Shelbourn, Jilly Robson.

Hockey: Skegness 1 - Bourne 2nds 2

Skegness battled at a cold home match against 3rd from bottom Bourne 2nds. After having a poor first half, Skegness dominated the second with many chances on goal. Unlucky result - we deserved at least a draw.

Skegness remain 2nd from bottom, with one match remaining of the first half of the season.

~~~~~~~~~ Match Report ~~~~~~~~~
Skegness pipped at the post in closely fought match
Skegness played at home this week against Bourne's second team buoyed by their first win of the season in the 5-0 thrashing of Lincoln 2nds last week.
From the first whistle the game was a close fought affair with Bourne only just taking the honours and establishing a measure of domination through the use of their very skilful attackers.
This high level of skill allowed for Bourne's first goal just 15 minutes into the half, when one attacker put herself into a good shooting position, allowing them to go 1-0 up after a powerful strike hit the backboard of the goal.At half time Skegness didn't feel as though a loss for them would fairly represent the game, and so went back onto the pitch with even more determination than before, in hope of changing the score. This attitude was evident as much more pressure was put on the Bourne defence and Skegness had many good chances all of which went unrewarded. The Bourne attackers however were not fazed by this and proceeded to go two goals up when another shot on goal got past the Skegness keeper.
Fortunately, Skegness were not dispirited and had not lost their desire, in particular player of the match Chantelle Farrell who scored Skegness' only goal of the match; sweeping the ball into the goal after receiving a pass inside the "D" from veteran Pauline Forman.
Skegness continued to press forward searching for their second goal, however this was not to be and the game's final score was 2-1.
Players: Amy Rutter, Abbi Emerson, Olivia Stephenson, Chantelle Farrell, Kate Tyler, Pauline Forman, Debbie Skipworth, Lara Potts, Amanda Black, Jilly Robson, Emma Shelbourn, Vicky Thurston, Lisa Cumberworth.
Slick ego's bring home more Silver wear
Venue - Buckmore Park
Date - 26th May 2008
Race - 6hr Team Endurance
Weather - V.V.Wet (Under statement!!)
Slick Ego's Team - Steve, John, Pat, Scott, Amanda
Qual - 12th Overall - 2nd in class
Result - 8th Overall - 2nd in class
Good results team Slick ego's. Unfortunately a few technical problems prevailed first position but that is Endurance racing. Most important thing was keeping it on the black stuff and gaining no self inflicting damage. Which we achieved. Just a pity that that Bucks cant sort out a few problems with karts. We'll get the top step next time. Bring the next challenge on.
Next Challenge Pro-Am Outdoor karting circuit - Yorkshire
One of the best challenges in karting is going to a new circuit and seeing how long it takes you to learn it and get on the pace. I love going to new circuits and see different track formations. Our next team events is at Tockwith in Yorkshire at the Pro-Am outdoor karting circuit. It is on an old airfield and looks rather basic compared to what we are use to (PFI and Buckmore) but we will give it a go.
